Why Organic?

Mama’s Brew Shop has always been passionate about crafting products that have the health of people and the planet in mind. After all, creating a thriving world for future generations is what we are all about. This is why we chose to create products that use whole, organic ingredients. 

Most people, when they hear the word organic, think of the benefits to those consuming the products. While this is true, the impact of choosing organic goes far beyond our own personal health.

According to Soil and Health New Zealand, over 3000 tons of pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides are used in New Zealand every year through conventional farming. Many of these are not only toxic to our food system, but also to our soils. 

Instead, organic farming uses “natural approaches and fertilizers, such as crop rotation and manure, to control pests, diseases and weeds.” (Colombia University's Climate School).  A study based in the US undertaken over the past 23 years, has also found that organic soils are not only healthier but also are able to “lock away” more carbon in the soil. More carbon in the soil means less carbon in the atmosphere, helping to mitigate greenhouse gasses. 

From our perspective, the more we can do to support our soils in order to have a healthier environment, for now and for generations to come, the better!
